5. Most research projects can be done without
prior approval from the Scientific Review Committee (SRC).
Please read the CONSEF Rules (Full text)
carefully to determine if special rules and forms apply
to your project. Any project involving humans, invertebrate
and non-human vertebrate animals, bacteria, recombinant
DNA, tissue, pathogenic agents, or controlled substances require
prior approval .
6. For Middle School division (6
th through 8 th grades), ANY PROJECT involving
non-human vertebrate animals, human/animal tissue, pathogens,
controlled substances or human subjects WILL NOT
BE ALLOWED except those in which the animals
will be observed in a natural environment (e.g., zoo or
home)
7. It is highly recommended that the applications
be submitted as early as possible for all projects, even
those not requiring pre-approval.
8. For High School Division (9 th through
12 th grades) , any project involving humans,
invertebrate and non-human vertebrate animals, bacteria,
recombinant DNA, tissue, pathogenic agents, or controlled
substances require prior approval .
9. You should hear by phone or e-mail from CONSEF
within 2 weeks of submitting your forms. If not, please

The following items (10-18) include the rules
and the regulations on the day of the event and they
are recommended to be re-read carefully 2-3 days prior
to the event.
10. Upon your arrival at the facility, take your
project immediately to the appropriate room and space,
then register.
11. Do not leave your project during judging
until it is announced that judging is complete.
12. Since you are a representative of yourself
and your school, neat appearance is important. Look good
for the judges.
13. Be aware that other students are being judged
around you. Courteous behavior is expected of all participants
as well as others at the event.
14. Do not leave valuables or delicate items
unattended during the public viewing.
15. Do not dismantle your project until project
breakdown is announced. You are responsible for removing
all materials from the display area.
16. Parents should not be in
the gymnasium during judging. Rooms in Nestor Hall are
available for parents.
17. Judging begins promptly at 12:00pm . Each
project will be judged by a pair of judges. Students must
be present near their projects until it is announced that
judging is complete. If a student is not present when the
judging team arrives, the project may be disqualified.
18. Projects will be judged according to the
attached criteria. Judges decisions are final. |
