The Concept Ohio Charter Schools Science and Engineering Fair is a program organized by Horizon Science Academy & Concept Schools for Ohio charter schools only.

This is a science project competition for students in grades 6-12 attending any Charter School in the State of Ohio . Students prepare a display board and make an oral presentation while fielding questions directed by a group of judges. At the Concept Ohio Charter Schools Science & Engineering Fair, students will be judged on their use of the scientific method, creative ability, and comprehension. We are excited to have the chance to organize such an event for the first time in the history of Ohio Charter Schools.

Our ultimate goal in organizing this event is to encourage more students to participate in the state and district-wide science fairs. We know that each Ohio Charter School is doing an excellent job and we welcome this opportunity to share your experiences, talents, and abilities with other schools on such a unique platform.

There are numerous reasons why you want your students to be involved in The Concept-Ohio Charter Schools Science & Engineering Fair:

  • The science fair projects have great potential for building a student's self-confidence by allowing for individualized attention and the expression of individual differences.
  • Students who do not achieve the highest levels academically may shine in the course of doing such projects. This success should carry over to other areas in the regular classroom and proficiency tests as well.
  • The students will also develop their reading, writing and communication skills during the course of these projects.
  • It is a great opportunity for the parents to be more involved in their child's education by helping them with their projects.
  • It is an excellent way to a bring large number of parents, grandparents, and other community members together to provide an opportunity for them to see something tangible that indicates your students are learning science, math, and computer skills in school.
  • By attending The Concept-Ohio Charter Schools Science & Engineering Fair, you will be supporting the charter school movement in Ohio as well.

The Fair is going to be held on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Cleveland State University. All the Ohio Charter Schools should receive an essential information packet in the mail. For any questions or further information, contact Mr. Akkaya from akkaya@hsas.org .
